In the show we follow Merlin as a young man, when he arrives in the court of Arthur, and his learning days with physician, Gaius (Richard Wilson) who also oversees Merlin studies in magic, not without warning him of the dangers of such knowledge, as King Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head) has banned magic under pain of death. The series also focuses on young Arthur and his friendship with Merlin, and how interconnected their fates are.
